Horse racing events generate lots of money, and that’s the reason why breeders do everything they can to get the mares to produce as many foals as possible. One of the atrocities of the race horse industry is the treatment of the foals that are born form the “nurse mares.” Once the nurse mare gives birth to her foal, the baby is taken away and becomes an orphan. These foals are often killed or left to starve. Since she was a 12-year-old girl, Victoria Goss has been sheltering orphan horses, and thirty-five years ago she founded Last Chance Corral in Athens, Ohio to assist and take care of these precious animals. Today this horse sanctuary offers hope and shelter to horses despite their situation or problems. This is Victoria’s story:
