Plumber Angelo Mondragon was enjoying a day with his family at Lake Windsor in Colorado, when something brushed up against him under the water that felt like it didn’t belong.

CBS4 reports:

“Mondragon found [a] little girl, Sitlali Hernandez, unconscious in the water about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. He said he felt something brush against his feet and looked back and saw her tiny foot just beneath the surface.”

With the girl in his arms, Mondragon rushed to the shore while shouting for help. With two certified nurses by his side who had answered his call, they began performing CPR on the lifeless body:

“I breathed one little breath into her, and she immediately exhaled.”

Sitlali was taken to the Medical Center of the Rockies, and has since been listed in good condition.

Mondragon got to reunite with Sitlali on Monday:

Mondragon is now on a mission to help prevent what happened to Sitlali from happening to other children, reports Colorado Newsday:

‘If I was not in that right spot at the right time, it could have been a search and rescue mission,’ [Mondragon] said.

The scary incident has prompted the big-hearted plumber to approach local businesses to see if he can collect life vests for those who can’t afford them.

‘The baby was not wearing a life vest,’ he said. ‘If she was wearing one, the whole situation could have been different.’

Sitlali’s parents were reportedly not with her at the lake during the incident. The little girl was there with other family members.
